BECOME AN ADVOCATE

The Youth Advocate provides youth with resources and alternatives that best meet the needs of the youth served.  The purpose of The Youth Advocate work is to provide a liaison between the community and the youth to whom the community provide services. The Youth Advocate represents the youth perspective to the community as policies and procedures are developed in consideration of the needs of the youth served and their families.

 

Advocate Duties

•  Support youth in improving, maintaining, or restoring daily living skills.

  Inform, educate, and train youth through reaching out to selected individuals and groups in schools, neighborhood organizations, and other appropriate community locations.

  Inform, educate and train youth in order to empower youth to help themselves.

  Mentor youth in how to successfully navigate in society.

  Help youth articulate what they need to survive.

  Attend and participate in a variety of meetings and committees.

  Help youth prepare for and support youth at meetings as requested by youth and as appropriate.

  Make home visits with youth as appropriate.

  Provide individual support and advocacy by helping youth receive appropriate services from other community organizations that provide services to youth.

  Act as an advocate generally and individually for youth involved with the courts.

  Attend and participate in special events, conferences, workshops, and trainings in the the community.

        • Develop relationships with a variety of agencies and organizations
            that serve or advocate for youth.
